Coaching

A recent study by the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD) showed that coaching is increasingly popular as a means of promoting learning and development. 99% of respondents believed it delivered tangible business benefits.

I am a qualified coach having completed the CIPD Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring and I continue to have coaching supervision for my practice.

There are many definitions of what coaching is but I see my role as a coach as helping an individual to achieve their potential through developing and improving their performance at work. I deliver coaching on a one-to-one basis with sessions usually lasting 75 to 90 minutes about once a month.

As well as having a direct improvement on my work the coaching sessions have greatly improved my confidence in my own ability and made me more assertive in communicating that ability to others. The sessions have also made me realise I play a vital role in the organisation and have valuable skills which has given me confidence to consider my future with the organisation. I feel confident about setting my own agenda and fighting for the role I would like to play in future.

The benefits have been significant. I was completing an MBA course at the same time and one of my main aims this year was to narrow down my future career options and decide on a career path and the coaching sessions have been hugely useful to this end in particular the 'wheel of life' session. On a practical day to day level the 'time management' session helped a lot especially in balancing work and college demands during my examinations. And I now feel much more confident about my professional future and have a much clearer and focused idea of what I want to achieve over future years.

The coaching I received was truly excellent. I must admit that I was slightly sceptical about the technique and the whole exercise when I started but would now recommend it to others.
